For Owen's birthday last December I decided to see if I could find a neat birthday sign to make for him. I found a couple pictures online that gave me some ideas and this is what I came up with- I put a picture of his birth at the end of the row and plan to add the previous birthday picture each year to make its own stand one day.
I met my two sisters Elaine and Carrie at my mom's for March break- our new tradition is to make a craft together when we have sleepovers (Christmas, March break...)- they decided they wanted to make a birthday sign for their families as well so I taught them and here are a few pictures to capture our craftiness.
Of course I loved the way theirs turned out, they used more brighter colours and Elaine's looked sharp cause she did all the letters in the dark brown. I started to like them better than my own....
Supplies: different coloured sheets of felt, letter template, ribbon, hot glue gun
The whole sign is made with felt, we used a mug to trace the outer and inner circles, and pinking shears to cut the middle circle out. I downloaded a template online for the letters and everything is glued together with a hot glue gun. Cut pieces of small ribbon and glue under the smaller circle, loop over the big circle and glue to the back. Each word is seperate and the letters of that word are glued together (otherwise they would slide too much when you hang it).
Then pick a ribbon to hang it on and just weave through all the loops- and hang on the wall- this ribbon is not attached to the actual sign so you can have multiple uses for it. You can do just "happy birthday" but since its not connected to the ribbon you can do it for each child's birthday and just slide the name on when the time comes! Enjoy :)
