Goin' on an Adventure!

Its our new line, "we're goin' on an adventure!" With fists pumping in the air. We got it from the movie- the Hobbit, its what Bilbo Baggins says. Its our new phrase with Owen. He screams "adventure!" If you know my son, every day is an adventure with him!

Yesterday our adventure was a picnic in one of our favourite spots, Roth Park. Its located on the outskirts of Woodstock, along Pittock Lake- yes we have our own lake in town! Its got a beautiful walking trail and a perfect spot to picnic among dozens of huge trees.

It was the perfect day, not too hot (we were all in pants!) and a nice breeze for Owen's favourite outdoor activity- flying kites. So we got home from church, packed up the picnic basket with food and off we went, to enjoy the beautiful creation God has given us!

and of course he found a bug!

Quiltin'

Yesterday I finished the quilt I was making for Emma. I've only ever made one quilt before and that was last year for my niece Abigail, and that was a different style. I decided to do a block quilt, it was fairly easy but a lot of work. In Emma's room, on the one wall I did hoops filled with fabric as decoration, I bought too much fabric so I thought I would put the remaining pieces to use and make a quilt to match. I don't normally mix and match fabrics but I seen examples online and it looked sharp, I just had to get over my urge to match everything and I'm glad I did- I love the contrasting colours!

I'm not done decorating her room, I have lots of ideas I just have been busy with other things that I haven't gotten around to finishing it how I want it. But I did do these fabric hoops above her crib.

Bugs Bugs Bugs

So since Owen is loving bugs and John had the day off last Wednesday I suggested we go to the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory. As expected Owen just loved all the butterflies and bugs. They had workers there walking around with different bugs you could touch and hold. It was beautiful to see all the different butterflies and be reminded of God's wondrous creation!

Beetles from Madagascar

this is some sort of stick bug from Madagascar too, to me it looked like a huge grasshopper!

This was the most beautiful butterfly there- when its wings were open it was bright aqua blue. I couldn't get a good shot cause every time it landed it closed its wings.

Camp

We went church camping this year again and had a great time. I wasn't sure how it would be with two kids but it went so smoothly, Owen was at such a good age he played so well with the other kids and Emma just slept and ate. Plus the campground is 5 minutes from home so I knew I could go home if I wanted to- it was so cold the first night we went home the next day to get more blankets.

We had 7 families come out and some singles. On the Wednesday night we invited the whole church for a potluck dinner and campfire and we had a good turnout for that. It was a nice 4 days to get away from home and have some great socializing!

The guys are shooting golf balls around the site and the kids are watching.

Owen is obsessed with bugs. So I bought him a bug catcher before we left knowing he would find lots at camp. He is so enthusiastic about it that he got all the kids into it as well and they would all catch bugs for him and run around showing them off.

Loving that popsicle.
